We introduce several algorithms for volume visualization. One family of algorithms allow to obtain most informative views, and to cluster the volume slices according to their shared information into slabs, that are presented into an explosioned way. The second family of algorithms introduces a framework based on the computation of volumetric obscurances, and allows improved as well as illustrative volume rendering. Saliency is also defined as obscurance gradient and feeds back the rendering process to obtain enhanced visualization.
